Singing in a choir has tremendous benefits for physical and mental well-being, leading some to campaign for it to be prescribed as a treatment for medical conditions.

  • Strengthen feeling of togetherness

  • Regulate heart rate

  • Reduce stress levels and depression

  • Improve symptoms of Parkinson’s and lung disease

  • Improve feeling of social well being

  • Increase life expectancy.

2) Exercise your Brain!

Learning how to sing a new song is

  • Cognitively stimulating

  • Helps with memory

  • Beneficial for those suffering from dementia

  • Activate the Brain’s Reward System & the Dopamine Pathway

  • People feel more positive after actively singing vs passively listening to music – linked directly to release of positive neuro-chemicals such as β-endorphin, dopamine and serotonin.

3) Celebrate Music and Culture!

Music has been used in many cultures as a form of therapy to:

  • Celebrate

  • Mourn

  • Heal

  • Express Gratitude, Love and Faith

Double these benefits: if you are singing with Peoria International Choir because you will be learning new songs in new languages and experience the many different cultures we have on planet Earth!

4) Everyone can Sing!

However much you protest, everyone can sing!

It’s the most accessible form of music making. You are the instrument!

So what are you waiting for? Contact peoriainternationalchoir@gmail.com and audition for a voice range evaluation! The voice range evaluation is meant to determine how high or low you can sing so that you can be placed in the appropriate group: Alto, Soprano, Tenor or Bass.
